Born in England, Anna showed an interest in art from an early age. Her passion for art, however, was put on the backburner while she earned a degree in microbiology at the University of Guelph and pursued a career in science. She rediscovered her art about 10 years ago, while taking a career break to raise her family of three boys. Completely self taught, she started selling her art around 5 years ago and is now a full time artist.
Anna specializes in vivid, acrylic landscapes and floral studies. She boldly uses colour and contrast to capture beautiful snapshots of her life & environment. She hopes her work will evoke a joyful response in the viewer and convey her general sense of optimism for life. Most of her inspiration is from her home city of Toronto, her travels and her neighbour’s gardens. Since she works from photographs, you will often see her out and about with her digital camera in hand. Anna is also a member of the Beach Guild of Fine Art in Toronto. She sells her work in galleries, from her home studio, shows or through commissions. |

Pat delights in working with watercolour and acrylics. It is a constant pleasure for her to mix, blend and harmonize colours. Looking at paintings, talking about paintings and particularly creating paintings are great experiences for Pat. She has lived in the Beach for 46 years and her favorite subjects are those right on her own doorstep. “The ravine, the lake and my own garden are the best stimuli one could wish for.” Pat has participated in many shows and exhibitions and those have added to her growth and understanding of the demands of the media she has chosen. |

Dorothy Mould was fortunate to be able to study art at the Ontario College of Art when members of the renowned Group of Seven were still around. One of her instructors was Franklin Carmichael. Dorothy works mostly in oils. Many of her smaller landscapes exhibit bright, bold colours, while her larger paintings tend to be more subdued in their colour palette. And yet all her work captures the essence of the landscape she is invoking – the wind in the trees, the waves out on a lake, or lapping against a shoreline.

My work continues to grow and develop surface, texture and glazes that refer to environmental imagery. Bringing together both urban and rural landscapes is key to my artistic development. Through the constant testing of clay bodies and glaze materials I have found beautiful and delicate micro crystalline surfaces that flow and enhance form.
While the forms remain functional, wheel thrown and altered, they are intended to be used and admired as art. It is my intention that they marry pleasure and function, and sit well with the hand and eye. |

Katherine prefers to paint outdoors in the warmer months, and spends her winters painting inside her home studio, where her subject matter includes sketches from her travels, fresh flowers from local markets, and colourful interiors. |

“Old Peak” is the name the Inca inhabitants called the mountain-top citadel in the Andes that the conquering Spanish never found. It was discovered by an American professor from Yale University in April 1911. Built circa 1400, it remained in use until just before the Spanish came in 1532. Climbing through the ‘ruins’ to-day, I was filled with a sense of awe and ’utter amazement’. Almost everything, 600 years later, was still intact except the original thatched roofs and the wooden structures that held them in place.
How could any people in1400 A.D. build a city on top of a mountain in the Andes, without horses, with no heavy equipment, not using the technical advantages of ‘the Wheel’, with no written language to record information, with huge stones carved from the mountain built into walls with such exact skill that even to-day you cant fit the edge of a Visa card between the stones. (I tried and failed.) All this, while trying to administer an Empire that was larger than Rome ever was. Machu Picchu was totally self-sufficient. The fresh water aquaducts and drainage systems are ‘works of engineering art’. The terraces provided the soil to grow the food needed. Llamas and alpacas provided wool for clothing and milk. Weaving and pottery were other crafts necessary for this ‘distinct culture’.The ‘skills’of the ‘weavers’ rivalled that of the legendary ‘Spider Women’ of the Navajos in North America.
Apart from ‘a sense of awe’ that Machu Picchu gave me, I suppose the most apparent sensation was that of ‘Vertigo’. The vertical pathways are stone steps, carved from the granite of the mountain, in some cases 150 steps in a series, with no railings and the ‘series’ just keep coming at you. Many of the tourists used two canes . Some were on crutches and some with clubbed feet. I quickly forgot about myself and my ‘arthritic knee’. It is truly ‘the most Sacred Place’ I have visited in my lifetime. Just wish I had gone there in my ‘twenties’ because Machu Picchu is “not for Sissies” or “Old Guys” like me. Very happy and relieved to make it up and back. It’s ‘One for the Ages’, one you shouldn’t miss !
For everyone, some things in life are ‘forever’. For me this is one.’ |

I have always been passionate about style and the fashion arts. Upon completing high school, I followed my passion and was accepted at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Fueled by desire and hard work, I graduated in 1994, winning the Carol Rapp design award for Jewelry design. Immediately, I started my own jewelry company to continue my creative designs and share them with the public. In 1996, I spent four months in Israel cutting diamonds to improve my knowledge of gemstones.
For the past 15 years, I have been working hard at developing and growing my business. I currently have a large clientele base in both the wholesale market, and with individual clients. My work is found in fine shops all across the country and I participate in the One of a Kind craft show twice a year since 1996 to sell my work directly to my customers. |
